THIRD PRIZE: 2012 Newhouse project #2012244 | school bike shelter
There is definite need of a new bike shelter here at Lane Tech. The only existing structure that is available is what we call “the cage”. A small, unaccommodating space which only has two racks to lock up bikes. Its small space gives less area to lock bikes and maneuver them. It is an area exposed to weather and other dangers. Just this year, a friend of mine has gotten his wheel stolen from his bike. It is located near an area where many students feel the need to eat lunch and leave their trash around garbage cans near the bike racks. There is no shelter about it and the only thing protecting the racks is a short fence with a wide gate opening.
